Getting Started / FAQs

Anyone can dance. Dancing is like learning a language. If you do not currently know how to speak Japanese, then you shouldn't expect to communicate using it. The same principal goes for the non-verbal communication that we call Social Dancing, once exposed to it through lessons you will learn just like you learn any other skill. Dancing is a fun activity which makes the learning process so much easier, than say learning how to do your own taxes. One does not need a partner to learn to dance or to enjoy dancing.

Basically it depends. The more time you put in to it the better you will become, just like anything else. After one or two lessons you will know the basics, enough to go out to a dance venue and enjoy yourself. To get better you will want to continue to learn. We can train people to gain confidence and get out on the dance floor or we can train someone to a professional level of dancing, that is up to you.

When taught the correct methods of dancing with an emphasis of lead and follow, dancing is easy. Dancing is a life style change and a very fun activity to take up. Dancing is beneficial in so many ways, here are some:

Dancing will build confidence

Dancing will help to develop better balance and poise

Dancing has many health benefits such as helping to keep you in shape, since it is a low impact cardio workout ( we had a student lose 30 pounds since he started dancing)

Since our mission is to promote social dance, dancing can open up new avenues in your social life. You will meet like minded people when you go out dancing

Dancing is a great way to stregthen already existing, romantic relationships as well as develop new ones

There are so many other benefits...too many to list!

You can wear whatever you're comfortable in. Many of our clients come to class right from work and wear whatever they wore that day. We do recommend a shoe with a leather sole for Social dances, this will help you to glide. Followers will often wear a pair of heels (make sure they have a strap so they stay on your feet), when doing Latin or Tango. For Hip Hop we recommend workout clothes and sneakers. As you become more advanced you may want to look in to getting a pair of shoes specifically made for dancing. You can find dance apparel and shoes on our links page. Also feel free to ask us what we personally recommend.
